From this article, which is, in fact, a detailed step-by-step instruction, you will learn how to make a booth for a dog with your own hands. And not a simple booth, and insulated. Insulating material placed between the two-layer walls of the booth will help protect your dog not only from frost in winter, but from the scorching sun in the hot summer. Use for this purpose polystyrene sheets with a thickness of 7-8 cm or a rigid insulating foam. If you want to reduce costs, you can reduce the thickness of the insulation material to 4 cm.

How to make a booth for a dog with your own hands

Preparatory work

Before the construction starts, you should determine the size of the booth. The dog should be able to easily turn inside. Before making a final decision, study the various design options and choose the one that you prefer. Buy quality materials, if you want the result of your work to correspond to a high professional level.

Before beginning the description of the project, we give you some useful tips. Combine the structural elements at both ends before fastening them with screws. Before screwing the screws, drill the guide holes in the sawn timber, this will help prevent splitting of the wood. Make sure that the walls of the booth are vertical, and the floor and top beams are perpendicular to them. If you live in a region with a cold climate, use an insulating material 7.5-9 mm thick, otherwise 3-4 cm thickness will be enough.

For the construction of a booth you will need:

  • bruski section 5 × 10 cm - load-bearing structural elements, rafters;
  • 18 mm plywood - floor, wall covering, roofing;
  • 5 × 5 cm bars - supporting elements of the canopy;
  • nails / screws 5 cm long and 8 cm long;
  • ruberoid roofing tiles.

  • protective gloves, glasses;
  • Circular Saw;
  • A saw for making cut at an angle of 45 ° cuts;
  • a hammer;
  • spirit level;
  • roulette;
  • pencil.

  • Before picking up cutting / sawing materials, make sure the measurements are correct;
  • as a heater use sheet polystyrene, and not mineral wool;
  • all sizes in the figures are in inches; To convert to centimeters, use the formula: 1 inch = 2.5 cm.

Making the base and walls of the booth

The first stage of the project is to create the base of the booth. Make a frame of 5 × 10 cm bars, as shown in the picture. Secure the bars with 8 cm screws, drill the pre-guiding holes. Use a carpenter to make sure that the corners of the base are really straight.

Attach the veneer to the 18 mm frame, which will serve as the floor of the booth, and fasten it with 5 cm nails / screws every 15 cm along the frame bars. The edges of the plywood must not protrude beyond the frame.

Paul is ready, it's the turn of the walls. We recommend that you make frames of 5 × 10 cm bars. Work more conveniently on a flat surface. Fix the frames of the walls to the base of the booth and between them 8 cm self-tapping screws. Do not forget to check their verticality with an alcohol level.

Wall installation

The next stage of the project is the external covering of the walls of the booth with plywood. Cut out the sheets of the desired size with a circular saw with a thin blade. Do not forget to make a doorway, for this you will need a jigsaw. Fix the plywood sheets on the 5 cm frame with nails every 20 cm along the frame bars.

Now it is necessary to fix the sheets of insulation material. Based on our own experience, we recommend that you use a sheet of polystyrene 7-8 cm thick, and not mineral wool (glass wool). Regardless of which insulation material you prefer, make sure that there are no gaps between the wooden bars and the insulation, otherwise insulation will not be effective. Using a hacksaw, correct if necessary the size of sheets of polystyrene.

Fastening of insulating material

After placing the heater, you have to sew the walls of the booth from the inside. Cut out the plywood sheets of the correct size using a circular saw or a cutting machine, taking care not to damage the edges. Install the plywood in place and secure it with 5 cm screws. It is important to finish all the work on the inner skin at this stage, as in the future you will practically lose access here.

Roof and canopy making

The next step is the installation of rafters on a doghouse. To make them, use 5 × 10 cm bar, the ends of which need to be cut at an angle of 45 °. Make sure that all rafters are completely equal. Pair the upper ends of the rafters and fasten them with 8 cm nails or self-tapping screws. Place the connected pairs of rafters at equal distances from each other, as shown in the figure.

After the roof frame is ready, it is necessary to trim it with plywood sheets, attaching them to the rafters with 5 cm nails every 15 cm.

Tip: The second sheet of plywood should be slightly larger, since it should overlap the cut of the first sheet.

Sheathing of the roof

If you want to improve the appearance of the dog house, you can consider building a canopy in front of the entrance. Begin work with the manufacture of a floor frame of 5 × 5 cm bars. Gathering them together, make sure that all corners are straight, and the diagonals are equal.

Lay the floor using 2.5x10 cm boards. Fix the heads of the screws fastening them to get a neat appearance.

Now you need to build a skeleton skeleton. Install the racks of their 5 × 5 cm bars, fix them in place with the help of self-tapping screws. Then build the frame - how to do it, shown in the picture. Make sure that all elements of the structure are well aligned and securely fastened.

Building a shed
Construction of a frame for the walls of the canopy.

Cover the roof of the booth and canopy with a ruberoid, fastening it with the help of brackets, and then with a roofing tile. Lay the tile from the bottom of the roof. If you want to add decorative strips, you must do this before laying the roof tiles.

Advice: Draw a chalk line, which will serve as a guide when laying roof tiles.

Covering the roof with flexible tiles.

Construction of the booth is almost finished, it remains to take care of the small strokes. Fill all the slots and holes with putty on wood, and then with silicone sealant. After the mass has dried, sand the surface with sandpaper with a grain size of 120.

Tip: Cover the wooden surfaces with several layers of paint to protect them from damage from exposure to atmospheric moisture. Make sure that the nails and screws are drowned deep enough, otherwise the dog may get injured.

The work is completed. Now, thanks to our instructions on how to make a booth for a dog, you can be proud of the result of the work of your hands, and your pet will be sincerely grateful to you.
